Choosing the Right Nursery Theme
Choosing the Right Baby Nursery Theme
If you have a new baby on the way – Congratulations! It is definitely exciting to plan for your new baby. There are many things to get ready as you await for the baby’s arrival. However, getting the nursery ready is definitely important. You’ll want to come up with the right baby nursery decoration theme, complete with baby nursery bedding, furniture, and accessories. If you are wondering how to get started, here is a quick guide to choosing the right baby nursery theme for your new baby’s room.
Step #1 – Have a Notebook or Folder of Ideas – The first step in coming up with nursery theme for your baby nursery decoration is to have a notebook or a folder of ideas that you get along the way. You’ll probably have quite a few months to look around before you make the final decision. If you notice pictures in a magazine that you like, cut them out and throw them into the folder. Have a brainstorm about the baby room? Write it down. Then you’ll have all your ideas through your pregnancy and eventually that theme will take shape in your mind.
Step #2 – Do Some Research and Browsing Online – Of course it is definitely a great idea to browse and research online for baby nursery bedding and other items you’ll need for baby nursery decoration. The internet is a great tool and you’ll be able to find all kinds of great ideas and options on the web. Be sure to not only look for beautiful themes you like, but check into safety guidelines as well for choosing baby bedding and furniture for the nursery.
Step #3 – Check Out the Baby Sections – If you are in a department store or a mall, take some time to check out the baby sections. Many larger stores have a great section for babies and you’ll find great ideas that will help spur your creativity. Not only will you find some great ideas for the baby nursery theme, but you may find some great deals on baby items too.
Step #4 – Decorate According to Gender – When you are choosing the theme for the baby nursery, it may be a good idea to decide based on the gender when it comes to baby nursery decoration. Once you know whether your baby is a boy or a girl, it makes it easier to come up with the theme. However, if you want the baby’s gender to be a surprise, just go with a theme that will be nice for a baby boy or a baby girl.
Step #5 – Start with the Bedding – Last of all, when you are coming up with the baby nursery theme, it’s a good idea to start out by choosing the baby nursery bedding. Many times the bedding has a theme and you can follow that theme through the rest of the nursery. The bedding you choose is important for comfort and safety. So, once you find bedding you really like, consider basing the theme for the nursery around that bedding.

How to decorate baby nursery which has a red feature wall?Hi, I'm at a loss how I can do up a baby nursery for a baby boy which has a feature red wall, the red is like a light burgundy or crimson sort of red. The rest of the walls in the room are cream. I can't repaint it which I'd love to do so stuck for ideas. I like wall murals & things but of course clouds & space stickers etc won't go well on red. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Wow, looks like you’ve got everything you need! Best of luck to you.
I haven't seen magazines. Baby depot and Burlington Coat Factory both have great selections. Check out their websites!
Congratulations.
My baby's nursery has an under the sea theme. It seemed really popular when I was buying the bedding, it took months for it to finally come in!
Definitely go and visit ikea.com or the actual store they have very affordable items. Then I would paint the room a light color or a pastel, greens and blues are the best soothing colors. You can use wall decals that don't damage the walls. My sister is doing a Winnie the pooh theme with her nursery/bedroom. They are also sharing their bedroom with their baby, we don't know if it's going to be a boy or a girl…You can also do Dora theme, or baby looney tunes theme, or barney, or even circus. Best of luck on the room, and enjoying your new bundle of joy!
I found a contest with some designs that you don't see everyday. Some of them are for girls and some for boys, you might find something there to build on. I think my favorite might be the one that combines monkeys, guitars and polka dots or possibly the moon and stars wild western one. Really imaginative stuff but do-able.

I had a boy but I wanted this theme if I had a little girl!

I'm with Jean. I did the ladybugs with green, pink, lavender, and white accents. I bought a bedding set at Wal-Mart for under $60.
I was on a budget too, and really didn't want to paint the room. I have cypress from floor to chair rail and was afraid pink wasn't going to look good on it.
This is by little girls room, just to give ideas. I painted the window on the wall. Someone who was remodeling gave me the window, and I just used cheap acrylic paints from Wal-Mart. It can be washed off with soap and warm water if we ever want to change the scene.

I personally don't have a nursery yet, but my in-laws did jungle animals with green walls. My friend did a frog theme. Both are adorable!
1.) With my first one (boy) I went with a teddy bear theme and the colors dusty blue/sage… This was practical for me because we already had a ton of beanie babies (mostly bears) in the room that was being converted into a nursery and the curtains were sage green… I added the blue because I knew that having a boy meant that I would get a lot of blue things regardless of my color scheme (and I did!) and went with a Blue Jean Teddy crib bedding set and a Boyds Bears mobile (wow – I'm surprised that I still remember this much 5 years later!)
With my second, we didn't have a shower or any need to figure out a theme. He inherited hand-me-downs and shared our room and is now in with big brother…
My overall opinion of a theme for a baby's room is that it is unnecessary and only for the parents – The baby isn't going to be focusing on trains or fish or cars or bears… Soothing colors, bright shapes and lots to look at and feel are most important and those a far second to mom and dad from the baby's perspective…
Also, my son's room is now a far cry from the teddy bears he started out with… and I expect that many rooms end up this way…
2.) I personally love the train set as it is bright and cheerful
But the ocean theme also appeals to me…
3.) I personally love the ocean window (http://www.divadoggies.com/Site/Serene_%26_Surreal.html) for the ocean themed room or the train (http://www.divadoggies.com/Site/_A_Boys_Room.html) for the train themed room… do these also qualify?
4.) Personally, I think it is fine to do a theme in a minor sort of way (crib bedding and a few accessories – paint on the walls to match the color, etc.) – something that can be easily changed when the child grows older and develops their own tastes
I also really love the idea of an old-fashioned nursery… and I think that you could probablly combined the two (wooden blocks, a wooden train set, etc.)
Best of luck – and post pictures on muchado when you get the nursery finished!
Would a dark or light blue go with that? I'm not even sure. The reason I suggest blue is because it's a calming color. I would advise against red, it's an "exciting" or "loud" color. I would go for blue since it'll be a nursery…but that's just me…
