How To Throw A Great Baby Shower
It is an extremely exciting time in a couple\’s life when they are expecting their first child. Family and friends are also very happy for the couple and everyone wants a chance to celebrate together. Baby showers are the perfect way to celebrate this special event and allow everyone a chance to give the mother-to-be important first child advice!
The earliest records of baby showers show that they consisted of small groups of women meeting up for an afternoon tea where small gifts would be given to the expecting parents. Traditionally, showers are women-only but it has become more common to see men attend as well. The dad-to-be often arrives near the end of the shower to help his wife thank all their friends for their generous gifts.
Often, it is a close family member such as an aunt or a sister that plans the baby shower. The mother-to-be will help come up with the invitation list and suggest a few caterers or food possibilities, but she has other things on which she needs to focus. Ideally, you will hold the party on a weekend afternoon so that the majority of people can attend. Try to send out invitations at least two months ahead of time. People\’s weekend schedules fill up quickly and they might need to arrange for a babysitter to take care of the kids that afternoon.
People usually bring baby-oriented gifts for the parents-to-be, such as diapers, baby clothing, and toys. Many parents will register with one or two stores and point out gifts they would like to have. If you are someone who is short on money, however, and would prefer to give your time, that is always a helpful gift as well! Put together a coupon booklet with things that say \”three free hours of baby sitting services\” and \”a home cooked meal for mom and dad.\” Regardless of the gift you give, they will appreciate it!
Plan some fun baby games, such as \”guess the baby\’s name\” and \”guess what flavor baby food.\” Just check the web out for some more great ideas. Make sure that you start planning the baby shower soon! You want to make sure all the invitees have their babysitter nannies hired so that they can attend this great party!

I just did last month and saved tons by going to babyshower.com they have free lists and game ideas you can print out, …they also have guest/gift lists…..also don't be afraid of asking people to bring a dish to pass……the mom to be liked pooh so I googled pooh and came up with a vintage pooh site in German I printed up some pictures and framed them as decorations!!!! I printed up some parent themed poetry framed them and decorated the frames with (3D) scrap booking stickers and placed them around the tables surrounded by lilies and individually wrapped mints…….also Party America was great for plates, cups, etc……people are STILL talking about it…….Good Luck!!!!!
*added*
find your main theme for me it was vintage Winne-the-pooh
than find your colors….mine was yellowy vanilla cream and soft baby blue with silver accent
keep it simple plates, cups, linen, balloons alternate with your color scheme
Try bottled water with drop packs instead of soda or punch bowl
dollar stores or great for door prizes
we had raffle tickets for the winners of the games instead of little …..gifts that way you avoided arguments as who was done first, then we made seven or eight gift baskets to raffle off to those who won tickets….
Be creative….have fun!!!!!!
well depending on what gender the baby is really!!!
If it is a boy-do blue
If it is a girl-do pink
If it is unknown-do yellow
I would pick one of those colors. Get that color napkin, table cloth, and decorations…you need a cake, punch, and snacks. Make hot sandwhiches and also have crackers and cheese, a baby shower cake can be bought anywhere. Games; Look on google. They have so many games it isnt even funny. Just look it up…so many games to choose from. You can all try to guess that gender if no one else knows, you can play with the mother, play with the guests…baby showers are so much fun!!!! I have thrown so many and only had 2 of my own. ( I am a mom of sextuplets and a baby girl) so yeah. (: hope I helped.

Someones living room.
There used to be one that was used at all the wedding and baby showers where I'm from. I believe it uses equal parts of ice cold Hawaiian Punch and 7-UP, then you float scoops of vanilla ice cream in it. I don't usually like fruit punch, but I thought it was very good. You could try it ahead of time and see what you think!
Me, I would do something small, like a thank you card and maybe a nice little note inside saying thanks for the baby shower. Gift cards are a maybe if you're mailing it to their house. But, they have singing cards out now, those'll be nice.
oh i know this is the yoville music huh lol

A LUAU
I love throwing showers. First, remember the point is to celebrate that fact that a new baby is coming. Keeping that in mind as you plan will help you stay on track. With this "celebrate the baby" attitude in mind, here's exactly what I do when I throw a shower! Hope it helps.
First, the food. I assume that you are not the Martha Stewart type, or you wouldn't even be posting this question. Neither am I! So I like to keep it simple. I do light refreshments. My food table would have a trey of sliced cheese (buy the big blocks and slice it yourself, you'll save some serious $$.) I like to use Colby-Jack (the marbled stuff) and straight Colby, because they are very mild and I love them. I'd also include a trey of vegetables and some vegetable dip (ranch.) This would be baby carrots, sliced red peppers, cut up broccoli, and cut up cauliflower. Next would be a good size bowl of pasta salad. If you are inclined to make it yourself, that's fine, but you can get it from your local deli too (total effort = zero!!) I like to make a big bowl of fruit salad too. I take fresh apples (one green and one red), fresh oranges, fresh strawberries, and fresh nectarines, and cut them up in bite size pieces. Then, drizzle with some honey and shake the bowl until there is some honey throughout. To finish it, pour about half a bag (or more if you like) of shredded coconut in and shake the bowl again until it's distributed. This is so simple, but I never have any left, people love it! If I added anything to this menu it might be cucumber sandwiches. Take 11oz of cream cheese, 1/4 cup of mayo, 1 tbsp. of chopped scallions, 1/8 tsp. ground red pepper, 1/8 tsp. hot sauce, and 1 cup of peeled, seeded, and grated cucumber (squeezed dry between paper towels) and combine in a bowl. Fill sandwiches and slice into triangles (cut off the crust if you want.) Really the cucumber sandwiches would just be if I was feeling domestic, you'd have plenty of food without them. For drinks, I would put cups, a bowl of ice, and a 2 liter of Coke, a 2 liter of Sprite, and a jug of sweet tea on the table! Ta-da! The food is done. I would cut up the veges and make the sandwich filling and the pasta salad the night before. Don't make the fruit salad until a few hours before the party or it will "puddle." You could also slice the cheese ahead of time. The last thing I include is a nice cake. You can get a sheet cake from your local grocery store for about $15, or if you want to spend a little more, go to a local bakery and order one that's a little more unique. They are still under $20.
Now for games. I like to do the animal families game as an ice breaker. Give your guests a list of 10 common animals. They have to fill in the name of the animal baby. It's different for every species, and so it can be a real brainbender. If you really want to make it fun, have them write down next to each animal the name of the "daddy" "mommy" "baby" AND "family." These are all unique names. For example, if the first one was "cat", then the dad would be a tom, the mom would be a queen, the babies are kittens, and the families are called clutters. This is great, and most people know more of them than they think. You can choose your list of 10 animals here:

Next, do the tired old trey of baby items (with a surprise!) Have the mom-to-be walk the room showing everyone the trey full of little baby care items (a pacifier, a bottle, q-tips, nail clippers, a diaper, booties, etc.) Once they've had a look (you can even send her around twice) have her leave the room with the trey. Once she's gone, surprise your guests (who are trying to remember what's on the trey) by telling them they now have to write down everything they can remember about what the mom-to-be was wearing. Very sneaky, and lots of fun. Give them a point for each detail they remember (blue earrings, red belt, black shoes, pink shirt, 5 button shirt, etc.) Here's another fun game suggestion. Give a gift (in a gift bag) to the mom-to-be. (By the way, I get three small scented candles in fairly neutral colors and give one away for each game winner.) Read the story below (guests should be sitting in a circle.) Each time you say left or wright, guests have to pass the gift. It's chaotic and fun! Here it is:
Mr. WRIGHT prepared to take Mrs. WRIGHT RIGHT to the hospital as she just went into labor. As he LEFT in the car, he turned RIGHT out of the driveway. He had to go RIGHT back home because he LEFT Mrs. WRIGHT at home. They both got in the car on the LEFT side as the RIGHT side door wouldn't open. Mr. and Mrs. WRIGHT again LEFT for the hospital, turning RIGHT out of the driveway. An argument occurred about the RIGHT turn, as Mrs. WRIGHT said that Mr. WRIGHT should have turned LEFT. Mr. WRIGHT kept insisting that he was absolutely RIGHT, but Mrs. WRIGHT kept insisting that the hospital entrance was on the LEFT. Two blocks away after another LEFT turn they discovered they had LEFT Mrs. WRIGHT’s over night bag at home. So they made a LEFT turn, then a RIGHT to go back home to where they had LEFT the bag. As they turned RIGHT on to their street, Mrs. WRIGHT said "Let's just go RIGHT to the hospital and send someone else RIGHT to the house for the fact that we LEFT the bag on the couch". They went LEFT at the next block and turned RIGHT back around. Finally at the hospital Mr. WRIGHT pulled up to the front where he LEFT his wife to go RIGHT in. Inside the hospital they wheeled Mrs. WRIGHT away. “Where is my wife? I only LEFT her for a minute!” Exclaimed Mr. WRIGHT. A nurse rushed him RIGHT down the hall, they made a LEFT turn, then a RIGHT, and a LEFT turn again. Mr. WRIGHT found Mrs. WRIGHT already in delivery. But he then realized that he had LEFT the video camera in the car. RIGHT away he ran out of the room and back to the car. Not only had he LEFT the camera but he had LEFT the lights on too. Mr. WRIGHT wasted no time; he ran RIGHT back to his wife’s room. As Mr. WRIGHT walked in all he heard was screams from his wife because he had LEFT her room and was nowhere in sight. I’m sure you can guess what happened next. As Mrs. WRIGHT had the baby Mr. WRIGHT passed out on the floor. But when he came to he got a shock once more. For there he saw Mrs. WRIGHT embracing their new little bundles of joy. With two babies on her LEFT and one on the RIGHT, Mrs. WRIGHT turned to her husband and said “there is one thing LEFT to do, I think we should name these WRIGHT babies, how about you?
The person left holding the gift at the end gets to keep it!
Now for the best part – the decorations!! I would get a large pink tablecloth (you can get a disposable one for $1, but if you want something a little more special, go to your local craft store or party store. I got a pink irridescent one that was gorgeous from the Hobby Lobby) and put in on the food table. You can get another for the gift table if you like. Next, I do a streamer swag in a couple of strategic places in the party area. Above doorways and above windows are great places. I just take pink and white streamers, twist the two colors together, and hang them in the shape of a smile above a couple of windows and doors. Gorgeous, and cheap. Next, I buy a bag of pink latex balloons, and a bag of white (or whatever colors you want) Early *the day of the party*, have them filled with helium. Put a bunch of about 5 (with both colors) in a few strategic places again, like behind the gift table, behind the guest of honor's seat, etc. Put one or two on the mailbox as well so people know which house is yours. I like to get a couple of balloon weights as well and tie balloon bunches to them so I can place a ballon bunch in a good spot without having anything to tie it too. In my opinion, helium balloons instantly make the atmosphere like a celebration.
Now for the finishing touch – a diaper cake! I put a 4-tier diaper cake in the middle of the gift table, or on display near where the guests will congregate. They are such great conversation pieces, everyone just crowds around them and asks a billion questions. You can even use the diaper cake to play a guessing game – see who can guess most accurately how many diapers and what supplies the cake is made of. At the end of the party, the mom-to-be can take the cake home as your gift to her. They are very practical for this reason, because flowers or paper centerpieces just end up in the trash. This way, mom gets a ton of usable diapers and supplies, and you get a dual purpose centerpiece and gift. Check out the website below, this will really be a special and memorable element of the shower.
General order of business after all the guests have arrived: have everyone introduce herself and say how she knows the mom to be. Play the games. Send everyone to the food table, mom-to-be first. Once everyone is situated with their food, mom to be should be mostly done eating, so she can start opening gifts while guests are still munching! (Have someone write down what gift is from who as she opens.)
And there you have it! Remember, make it your own, and have a great time. A baby shower is an event that your friend will remember for a lifetime, she is lucky to have someone who is putting such thought into making it special throwing it for her! I'm sure it will be wonderful. Best of luck!
